About the Selcuk - Sirince Transfer
Sirince Village sits 8 km east of Selcuk on the slopes of Mount Bademli. The taxi ride takes about 15 minutes via a winding mountain road that passes through olive groves and peach orchards. The drive itself is part of the experience.
There are minibus connections from central Selcuk to Sirince, but the last service runs around 18:00-19:00 and is busiest on holidays. For wine-tasting tours or visitors who want flexible return times, an online fixed-price taxi is the most practical choice. With a return-trip booking, the driver waits for you at an agreed time.
About Sirince Village
Sirince was known as "Çirkince" (meaning "ugly") during the Ottoman era; the village council changed the name to "Şirince" (meaning "lovely, pleasant") in 1926. Until the late 19th century the village had a Greek Orthodox population — about 1,800 Christians lived here before the 1924 Turkey-Greece population exchange. After the exchange, Turkish families from the Thessaloniki region were resettled here.
The village's defining feature is its traditional Greek architecture — stone-and-timber houses on adobe foundations, with pastel-painted walls and tiled roofs lining narrow cobbled streets. Two restored churches stand in the village square: Saint John's Church (1892) and Saint Demetrios's Church (1834). The latter is also used as a wedding venue.
Sirince's most famous product is its fruit wines — strawberry, mulberry, blackberry, pomegranate, sour cherry, peach and grape. The village has more than 30 small wineries, all offering free tastings. Visitors can buy homemade wine, organic olive oil, balsamic vinegar, soaps, spices and handmade textiles. Plan at least 2-3 hours for a visit.
Practical Information
Best Visiting Hours
Morning 10:00-12:00 and afternoon 15:00-18:00 are the best windows. Weekends — especially Sundays — can be very crowded; weekdays are quieter. A Sunday open market makes that day rich for organic-product shopping.
Wine Tasting
30+ wineries in the village offer free tastings. Fruit wines (strawberry, sour cherry, mulberry) are the most popular. Allow 1-2 hours of rest or a meal after tasting before driving. An online taxi return is the safe choice here.
Food and Lodging
The village has restaurants serving traditional Turkish-Greek cuisine. Homemade mantı, gözleme and stews are local specialities. A few boutique pensions and villas exist, but for overnight stays returning to Selcuk is more practical.
Pricing Details
One-way transfer between Selcuk and Sirince is approximately €12-18. Online fixed-price booking has no night surcharges or luggage fees. Metered taxis can vary because of the mountain route; the advantage of online booking is a guaranteed fixed price.
For a return trip with the driver waiting, expect an additional fee for 2-3 hours of waiting — specify at booking. A full-day combination package (Ephesus + Virgin Mary + Sirince) is usually better value than separate transfers.
